My friend Jim and I headed out early Saturday morning for a kayak trip. We dropped my truck off in Milton, Florida and drove 13 miles upstream to Deaton Bridge in the Blackwater River State Park. The plan was to float/paddle downstream on the Blackwater River to Milton, where we'd throw the kayaks in the back of my truck, drive back to pick up his jeep and go get something to eat. It should have been a 6 hour trip. It turned into a disaster.
The first three and a half hours were fun. Starting at 9:30, we paddled down river, mostly let the current just pull us along. Every hour or so, we pulled up on a sand bar and stretched our legs. At one
